Big applause for our biggest ITC in Australia!!

Check out the new and good looking generation of SSI dive Instructors just certified in Cairns!
Scubabo, with the collaboration of Hostel Reef Trips, organised the biggest ITC ever carried out in Australia, and it turned out to be a great success!

Nikki, Justin, Anna, Matty & Jackson just completed their 3 months dive master training before on our over night boat.
Giving certified divers dive briefings, guiding certified divers, preparing the dive sessions which includes filling scuba tanks and writing dive logs..all these is part of the program.

The final step to become a assistant Instructor is to assist a full Open Water Course with our high qualified dive Instructors. Assisting scuba skills update program and at the end an In-water teaching evaluation which means learn how to brief and teach unexperienced students who never dived before and get them ready and excited for these great adventure.

All 5 of them have done very well and got nominated for our first SSI Instructor course in Cairns!
Congratulations guys!

The course consisted in 10 academic and pool training days course and ended up in beautiful Fitzroy Island for the open water evaluation. The 9 participants chosen were employees from Scubabo Underwater photography Art and Hostel Reef Trips, who had previously completed their Dive Master Traineeship with either companies.

After a stressful too weeks, big smile on all our candidates faces! No more preparing presentations, online studying or skills practicing because everyone has passed the course! Wuuuup wuuup

Perfect Buoyancy dive with Open Water Student Reto on the Great Barrier Reef!

I would like to introduce you to Reto, who decided to sign up for his Open Water Course on our live aboard Reef Encounter. Only after 3 days and 2 nights, including 8 day dives and a final exam,  Reto was an Open Water diver!
The course started with his first open water dive in our beautiful reef location Norman Playgrounds.
Usually the first confined session is the hardest,  performing mask and regulator removal under water is not an easy task but guess what? Reto smashed it!  So we were able to continue  the session as a fun 30 minutes dive!
Picture
Norman Playgrounds is one of my favourite dive sites. The visibility is usually exceptional (15-20 meters) and a couple of huge Grey Reef Sharks are usually hanging around "Shark Mountain". The highlight, however, is our local resident Tyson! He is a Queensland Grouper of around 1.5 meters long that I can assure you...would intimidate anyone under water!

Day number two started with us jumping in the water at 6.30am for our early morning session at the same location. This one never disappoints..on our way to the  training sandy area a school of 40
Humphead Parrot Fish surprised us  while working on the new skills.  What a start of the day! This is the largest spicies of parrot fish that can be found in the Great Barrier Reef.   When encountering these gigantic parrot fish during the day, you will most likely  find them wandering around on their own or maybe in groups of two or three.  At night, however, as  a defense mechanism, they will gather in huge schools until   later on in the morning when all the predators are gone and it is safe to  spread out.

Picture
For our dive number 3 we changed location within the same reef system, Norman Fingers.  This location offers amazing topography and a great variety of marine life too.   On this dive Reto performed the under water weight belt and BCD removal and replacement.   This is a hard one too, especially for beginner divers that do not  master their buoyancy yet.   Of course, Reto exceeded my expectations and carried all the skills out   efficiently!

Picture

The last day of the course is basically a review of all the skills, so the more we repeat them, the more confident we feel performing them.  Since Reto was a brilliant student, we  enjoyed the last two sessions going for fun certified dives!

All in all an awesome and successful course. Congratulations Reto - my latest Open Water Diver! Safe travels back to Europe! I hope you enjoyed the course as  much as I did!

When it comes to Night Diving  we  need to make sure we have all the tools that will allow us to make the most of it.  On this occasion, I would like to  recommend the torch I personally trust for my night dive adventures: The Subgear Prolight SP30.

I have been using this amazing lighting tool for the last 2 years now,  doing 3 to 4 night dives a week, and I have not had any issue with it. The   Subgear Prolight SP30  comes with a strong string that allows you to secure it to your equipment and make sure it is attached to a safe and easy to locate  spot while diving.

Furthermore, this excellent torch has an amazing value...only   99,95$!

Find below all the  features  of the Subgear Prolight SP30!
